An update for Mario Kart 7 has been released on the Nintendo eShop, upgrading the game to version 1.1. The update removes shortcut exploits in the following courses:

  • Wuhu Loop
  • Maka Wuhu
  • GBA Bowser Castle 1

While the update is not mandatory for playing in single player or local multiplayer, the update will be mandatory for online play. Players will be able to tell whether or not they have the update installed by "Ver. 1.1" being displayed on the Online Multiplayer icon on the startup menu. Alongside this, a small 3DS firmware update has been released, which users will be prompted to download upon starting their 3DS.

A few days ago, Nintendo announced that several characters will be available as unlocks in the newest installment of the Mario Tennis series, Mario Tennis Open. These characters will be unlockable through both gameplay and scanning of QR Codes. While it was not stated who would be unlockable, a recent update on the Japanese Mario Tennis Open site confirmed that 7 characters can be obtained through the use of QR Codes. Although, it's implied that they may simply be alternate costumes. As well, QR Codes may award players with new costumes and gear, which can be worn by their Mii character. While it appears there might be a third feature involving QR Codes, details have yet to be added.

Along with the details on QR Code functionality, the characters page on the site has been updated, showcasing 4 newcomers to the court; Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Luma and Dry Bowser.

Nintendo has finally released more information regarding its latest, zany party title, Mario Party 9. The vehicle that we've seen Mario and friends riding around in appears to play a big role in the game's gimmick. Each character will take turns being "Captain" of the vehicle, meaning they can control which path it will take and land on certain lucky spaces. There will also be "Captain Events" that will affect the pace of the game. Boards play different than in past games as well. Now, there is a definite beginning and end, and players must guide the vehicle through plenty of branching paths to reach the end where a Boss Battle lies for all players to take on. The only revealed boards right now are Toad's Road and Boo's Horror Castle. For more info, check out the game's info page at Nintendo.
