Q: When does damage from effects like and take place?
A: The damage takes place right after the burned/poisoned card is about to attack. For example, if a Goomba has 1 HP left and is poisoned, it takes the damage and becomes after it attacks. (Note: If a card is switched into Waiting, the counter for its Burn/Poison effect is put on hold until the card is switched back into play.)
Q: What happens when I summon a card using a move/ability/etc?
A: Summoned card act as an additional character that enters a slot known as the Summon Slot. Only one card may occupy the Summon Slot at any given time, and if the summoner is defeated, the summoned card is also defeated.
Q: Are Equip cards boosted by terrains?
A: No. Any damage dealt by attacks granted from Equip cards is affected only by boosts from badges, effects, etc. (In addition, this also means that an opponent's terrain that weakens your cards, such as Tiny Huge Island or Mt. Lavalava, won't affect the damage dealt from your Equip cards.)
Q: Can I use two of the same Equip cards on my team?
A: Some, but not all. Following the logic presented by the "Unique" rule, you cannot use more than one of the same equip on a team (since there is only one F.L.U.D.D., Perry, Thoreau, etc).
Q: Wait, "Unique?" What does that mean?
A: If a card is considered to be a "Unique", it means that only one version of that card may be used on a team. This also means that any upgrades/combos of a "Unique" card cannot be used if that card (or a different upgrade/combo of that card) is already being used. Just think of it like this: There's only one Mario. The indication of a "Unique" card is indicated by the icon appearing after the card's name in its description.
Q: I've seen the terms "Danger" and "Peril" being used a lot. What do they mean?
A: When a card is in "Danger," it means that it has 5 or less HP left. (There are many badges and cards that only activate during the Danger stage.) When a card is in "Peril," it means that it has exactly 1 HP left.
Q: I'm still confused as to when I should inflict damage from effects or reduce counters. Is there some sort of turn layout I can refer to?
A: The turn layout is as follows:
Start of Turn
- If any of your cards are defeated, you may replace them with another one from Waiting.
- Stat boost/drop counters reduced by 1.
- Your first card may attack, defend, use items, switch out, etc. if it is able to.
- Any damage from effects such as Poison/Burn on your first card is inflicted. Status counters for your first card reduced by 1.
- Your second card may attack, defend, use items, switch out, etc. if it is able to.
- Any damage from effects such as Poison/Burn on your second card is inflicted. Status counters for your second card reduced by 1.
