Following the success of Mario Party 4, Mario Party 5 is the fifth installment in the Mario Party series. The game features 76 brand new mini-games and 5 different gameplay modes: Party Mode, Bonus Mode, Super-Duel Mode, Mini-game Mode, and Story Mode. Each mode, as well as the tutorial and game options, are hosted by one of the Star Spirits, characters returning from their first appearance in the Nintendo 64 game Paper Mario.
The most notable new mode is the Super-Duel Mode, which is entirey unique to Mario Party 5 and has two players duke it out in customized vehichles with parts sold by Skolar. The game's story mode pits Mario and company against Bowser and his three Koopa Kids (also known as "Mini Bowsers" in the PAL regions). Mario Party 5 also introduced a bonus mode, where characters can compete in different sports-based minigames, and the orb system (which replaces the shops from previous games in the Mario Party series) would be kept for several future games in the series. |
