Mario and friends take it straight to the court for some specialized gameplay to compete against each other in a series of Tennis matches and tournaments. Players can complete in singles matches or team up for some doubles action, using up to 7 different shot combinations of power and spin.

Players may expand their character roster via the N64 Transfer Pack to send or receive characters to and from the Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis. This link and transfer method can also be used to unlock new courts, or level up your characters.
